(under construction)

This page explains how Project Harambee helps disenfranchised HIV+ women form sustainable work and social groups.  We want to:

  • create a successful work environment
  • foster friendships so that women & children--deserted by their families--are cared  for when illlness or death occur.

NEW IN 2006 & 2007:  VOLUNTEERS ON OUR 2006 SERVICE TRIP QUICKLY SAW THE NEED FOR COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE AND ITS CRUCIAL ROLE IN DEVELOPMENT & HEALTH CONCERNS.   THEY MOVED QUICKLY TO IDENTIFY SPECIFIC NEEDS AND TARGET RESOURCES FOR HELP.  IN 2007  VOLUNTEERS ARE RETURNING TO:

  • CONTINUE DEVELOPMENT OF BOYS' & GIRLS'  SOCCER TEAMS IN EMBULBUL
  • CONTINUE WORK WITH MEN'S DISCUSSION GROUPS TO ENCOURAGE HIV TESTING & EQUAL TREATMENT OF WOMEN
  • INITIATE SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS FOR FAMILY & COMMUNITY SUPPORT (soapmaking, "Critters for Kenya" )
  • BEGIN SUSTAINABLE ORAL REHYDRATION EDUCATION FOR MOTHERS IN A CLINIC SETTING
