Mukuru classroom

Taken in 2001, before free grammar school education was mandated by the new president of Kenya in 2002.  A resident from Mukuru was able to begin a school on land granted by the government.  He had few resources and there were as many as 100 children in a classroom.  But he believed that a poor education was better than no education.  The children were so eager to learn!  Now, thanks largely to AmericaShare (www.AmericaShare.org), the school is much better equipped and some students have obtained sponsors to attend high school ($500/year).
